PRACTICE WORKFLOW DECISIONS

3Shape for Practices: TRIOS, Design Studio and Dental System Roles

Separate practice acquisition and chairside design from the Dental System laboratory workflow before choosing support.

Avoid a company-wide software comparison

3Shape describes TRIOS Design Studio as guided restorative design software for in-house work, with Produce handling delivery to integrated manufacturing devices or STL export through its Save to folder option. Its Dental System page describes laboratory CAD packages and Dental Manager case management. These are different product roles.

The public pages do not identify the installed release or entitlement of a reader’s system. An STL export option does not establish editable-project exchange with Dental System or an independent designer. Describe the intended output first.

Choose where design should happen

A practice wanting staff-led chairside design should evaluate the relevant Studio application and configured production path. A practice wanting its lab to design should evaluate the acquisition and case-transfer route. A practice with a small internal lab may need a laboratory design workflow; its scanner brand does not settle that choice.

Use the staff member’s actual task in the demonstration. Can they locate the current prescription, understand what the receiver needs and identify a blocked transfer? Do not assess acquisition, design and production as if they were one interchangeable license.

Keep scope and entitlement separate

Ask the reseller to complete this record for the quoted or installed products. Laboratory package names should be accompanied by a current entitlement list, rather than an assumption that all advertised functions are included.

Test the receiving task

Use a training order to distinguish complete-order exchange from scan export. Ask the receiver which files it can open and what remains editable. Record missing prescription context, libraries or dependencies before authorizing a real workflow.

A hypothetical practice may want an existing lab to handle larger cases while staff designs a narrower chairside scope. Document both routes with separate acceptance criteria and owners. Success in the chairside route does not validate the laboratory handoff.

Pristine’s existing 3Shape design service is a discussion starting point. It does not establish a TRIOS Design Studio integration, an official partnership or entitlement to a vendor-operated design service.

Review boundary

Technical review pending — unverified locally. Louie must validate the exact product/release, modules, licensed access, accepted inputs, revision ownership and receiving output before Pristine promises a system-specific workflow. Operational frameworks also need his review. No vendor affiliation, direct integration or clinical superiority is asserted.

Use authorized training records to test a proposed handoff. Preserve originals and distinguish an observed software step from design acceptance, manufacturing release and the responsible team’s clinical decisions.
