Symptoms and scope
Use this guide when the same identified scan has unusual surface-facing display. A mesh can face inward without being the wrong arch or having the wrong jaw relationship. Do not rotate an arch, realign a bite or fill a hole simply because a surface looks strange.
First establish the mesh's role and revision and the view in which the symptom occurs. Record whether it is visible in the source viewer, the receiving application or both. If the source is missing, record that limitation rather than attributing the issue to the exporter.
Vendor-documented orientation check
exocad's wiki describes inverted triangles as an inside-out scan and documents Show triangle orientation in the Scan Data Editor, reached from Expert Mode. In that diagnostic display, triangle backsides are red. The article then describes Invert triangle orientation as the correction.
This is the cited vendor workflow, not a locally reproduced fix or a general meaning for every red display. A red object in another tool may indicate something different. The article does not establish a tested release range, and this guide does not promise a corrected anatomical record.
Diagnostic sequence
Keep an untouched source and record the currently selected mesh. In the authorized training environment, ask the reviewer to compare ordinary display with the documented triangle-orientation view. Identify whether the observation supports the particular inverted-surface hypothesis.
If an edit is authorized, work on a clearly labelled derivative using the applicable installed manual. Reopen the derivative in the agreed receiving application and inspect the same area and role. Escalate to supplier support if the documented control is absent or the discrepancy persists.
| Check | Evidence or next decision |
|---|---|
| Identity | Exact file, mesh role, revision and application release. |
| Observation | View/tool and whether the behavior occurs in the source and receiver. |
| Authorized test | Control observed, reviewer authorization and derivative identity. |
| After test | Same-area comparison; receiving result; unresolved questions. |
Worked investigation
Hypothetical note: “Training mesh A07 appears hollow from this view. We retained A07, recorded the selected jaw mesh and asked the mentor to inspect triangle-facing display. The jaw-relationship decision is unchanged and remains with the responsible team.”
A successful display comparison would support a narrow observation about that file and configuration. It would not show recovered anatomy, scanner accuracy or correct clinical alignment. If the file instead lacks a surface, use the artifact-review guide to request evidence; orientation inversion does not acquire missing data.
Limitations and Louie validation
Louie validation pending — unverified locally. Louie must reproduce triangle-orientation display and any authorized inversion on permitted training data in the actual release. Check whether the symptom and intended receiving result change; no automatic repair or clinical acceptance is established.
Use internal references in the blank worksheet. Examples are hypothetical; applicable instructions and responsible approvals govern real work.
