Symptom and first checks
The message includes “Unsupported material file version” when importing an order into Dental Manager. Record the complete error text, the sender’s Dental System version, the receiving version and the revision of the original package. Keep patient identifiers out of a general troubleshooting note.
Distinguish the order-creation environment from the environment used to design it. A claim that both designers use “3Shape” does not identify the versions that matter. If you do not know the source version, ask the sender rather than guessing from the filename.
Vendor-documented cause and supported route
3Shape attributes this error to an order created in a newer Dental System version than the receiver, including a documented mixed creation/design-version situation. Its guidance says orders require the same or a newer receiving version and directs a version upgrade where appropriate.
That is vendor guidance, not a locally tested fix. Ask the responsible system administrator or reseller to confirm the appropriate supported update path, backups and configuration before changing an installation. Do not edit order metadata to suppress the error or rename the package as a compatibility workaround.
Diagnostic sequence
- Confirm that the exact error matches the vendor article; record a non-patient transcription.
- Compare order-creation, design and receiving versions with the sender and administrator.
- Preserve the original package and identify the held receiving task.
- Confirm the supported version route with current product support before any installation change.
- After an approved change, retest import and the intended native continuation task separately from restorative approval.
If the versions appear compatible but the exact error persists, escalate the package/configuration question to product support. This guide does not establish another cause or promise that an update will resolve every import failure.
Limitations and Louie validation
Louie should validate the symptom and acceptance check using authorized, non-patient test data in the actual supported receiving setup. Record exact versions, whether the error was reproduced and the approved recovery route. Until then the guide remains vendor-documented and locally unverified.
A successful import does not approve the restoration or release manufacturing. Keep case identity, revision, dependencies and review status with the returned native package.
