Identify which export is missing
Is “Export Scan” unavailable, is PLY absent from the format list or are expected scan outputs missing after saving? Record the observed symptom and software version. Also confirm whether the receiver needs scan surfaces or a complete native order; those are separate deliverables.
Use an authorized test order to inspect the route. Do not share a patient screenshot to explain a menu problem. A non-patient note can describe the application, command and missing option without identifying the underlying case.
Documented prerequisite checks
3Shape’s scan-export article requires accepted orders and the TRIOS Scan STL Export dongle option. It dates PLY availability to Dental System 2021 and directs users to their reseller if Export Scan is unavailable. It describes the Orders-tab route through Advanced and Export Scan.
The article also warns that repeated default scan filenames can overwrite earlier saved exports. Those documented conditions should be checked in the installed environment; they are not a guarantee that every current license or account has identical options.
Diagnostic sequence
- Identify whether the order is accepted and visible in the documented Orders workflow.
- Ask the administrator/reseller to verify the required export option for this installation.
- If PLY is missing, compare the installed version and current vendor documentation.
- For an available export, save each required scan with a distinct role/name and compare the actual files with the expected record list.
- Test the intended receiving task; do not silently substitute a surface export for a requested native order.
If a prerequisite is unavailable, report that boundary to the receiving team. Avoid unverified conversion or license workarounds. Confirm a supported alternative with the responsible teams instead.
Limitations and Louie validation
Louie should validate available options, accepted-order behavior, format choices and output naming on the actual supported Dental System setup. Record the version and enabled export option without exposing case details. Do not label the guide “tested” until that evidence exists.
Export completion is not evidence that the package contains all instructions, approved relationships or native design context. Use a manifest to identify what was saved and a receiving check to determine what is usable.
