Symptoms and scope
Use this guide when the selected library reference does not appear to match the scan abutment, the marked reference point is unclear or the matching evidence is uncertain. This is distinct from a confirmed physical-component mismatch. It does not establish the correct implant position clinically.
Identify the current implant site, scan revision and authorized component information. If component identity is unresolved, pause the match and clarify it with the responsible team. Do not select a nearby-looking library simply because it appears to align.
Vendor-documented matching controls
exocad documents library search by article number, manufacturer or component criteria, filtering and library information in Detect Implant Position. Its matching step selects a corresponding point on the scan. The manual also describes excluding lower scan-abutment geometry from matching when artifacts affect that area, and inspecting matching feedback.
These controls do not authorize removal of evidence needed to identify a component. The relevant UI and interpretation must be checked in the installed release. This guide gives no numerical matching tolerance and does not equate a color display with clinical acceptance.
Diagnostic sequence
- Confirm the active site, current scan and established component identity.
- Compare the selected library information with the approved component record.
- Check whether the documented reference point is identifiable on the scan rather than guessing a hidden feature.
- If artifacts affect matching, consult the current documented controls with the responsible reviewer; distinguish matching-region exclusions from edits to the source scan.
- Record the match review and unresolved evidence before continuing dependent design work.
Keep three questions separate
| Question | Evidence needed | Hold when |
|---|---|---|
| Is the library correct? | Verified component identity and library information | Identity conflicts |
| Is the reference identifiable? | Visible corresponding feature in the current scan | Feature cannot be established |
| Is the matching result accepted? | Responsible review in actual supported workflow | Evidence or approval is missing |
Illustrative note: “Library identity is confirmed, but the required reference feature is not clear in this scan. Matching remains held.” That is more actionable than “implant match looks wrong,” and avoids claiming a software defect.
Limitations and Louie validation
Louie should check the installed release, available controls and evidence-review sequence with authorized practice records. Record whether library selection, reference-point ambiguity or artifacts were responsible. Any matching workaround remains locally unverified.
A changed match may require reconsidering dependent design and output. Preserve the earlier state and use a traceable revision brief. Matching completion is not proof of component compatibility, passive fit or patient outcome; responsible restorative and manufacturing review remains necessary.
