Dental CAD Quality-Control Handoff Checklist

Use this operational checklist to organize a restorative design review. It is not a universal clinical protocol or a substitute for material, component and manufacturer requirements.

Record and prescription check

Confirm case identifier, unit list, current records and intended stage. Check that the supplied bite and reference records match the approved brief. Note missing or conflicting information before finalizing dependent design decisions.

Geometry and design check

Review visible boundaries, insertion path, contacts and occlusion against the lab’s agreed settings and supplied records. Check the prescribed anatomy and relationships. Numerical parameters should come from the validated material and production workflow rather than a generic checklist.

Indication-specific check

For bridges, review unit relationships and applicable connector/pontic instructions. For implants, confirm component and library identity, retention and intended access. For dentures, verify the supplied jaw relation, setup stage and supported tooth/base route. Apply only the checks relevant to the case.

Production handoff check

Verify output format, scale, orientation and receiving-system import. Identify the approved file version. Confirm that required components and separate files are included. A file opening successfully does not by itself establish manufacturing suitability.

Approval and traceability check

Record what was reviewed, what remains unresolved and who approves clinical and manufacturing release. Attach consolidated revision notes to the case version. The receiving lab and treating clinician retain their respective approvals; a CAD review cannot prove clinical outcome or passive fit.
