Records and relationships
Prepared arch: the scan containing the preparation or treatment area. Opposing arch: the other arch used in the supplied relationship. Bite record: data used to relate the arches. Reference scan: an additional record such as a provisional or approved setup; its purpose and approval status should be identified.
Restoration geometry
Margin: the prescribed boundary of a restoration. Insertion path: the direction used to evaluate seating. Proximal contact: the relationship to an adjacent restoration or tooth. Occlusion: relationships to the opposing dentition as represented by the supplied records and instructions. These depend on the case and the receiving workflow.
Implant workflow terms
Scan body: a physical scanning component linked to a supported digital library. Implant platform: the exact connection/platform information needed for the component workflow. Emergence profile: the restorative contour transitioning through the tissue region. Screw access: the planned opening associated with the supported screw-retained workflow.
Files and production
Mesh: a surface representation used for geometry exchange. Native case: software-specific project data whose contents depend on the application. CAM: preparation for manufacturing operations. Deliverable: the agreed file or review stage, which should be named explicitly rather than called simply the design.
Approval and revision
Setup approval means acceptance of a specified design stage, not necessarily permission to manufacture every file. Revision refers to an agreed change; a new scan, material or clinical plan may be a scope change. Use the terms alongside case identifiers and file versions so both teams know what is approved.
